LAUNCH OF BOOK BASED ON RAGHU SINHA

Jaipur, 6 May: Raghu Sinha, often hailed as the “Uncrowned Maharaja of Jaipur”, was also the person who quietly extended a helping hand to those in need of education, medical help, mentorship and a trusting relationship. As a centenary tribute to Raghu Sinha — who was born on May 5, 1924 — the book, ‘Raghu Sinha: Life and Legacy’, was launched at the Ashok Club in Jaipur. The book was unveiled by Maharaj Jai Singh, Meera Khanna, Malashri Lal, Surendra Golcha and Sudhir Mathur. Compiled by Sudhir Mathur, the book is a befitting tribute to his grandeur as well as humility – standing out as a beacon in a contemporary landscape that is seeking role models.

The book has 68 tributes penned by people from across the world who were touched by Raghu Sinha’s attention and care. The various aspects of his life such as his service to the society, his contribution to arts and culture, his role as a mentor and guardian to others, etc. have all been captured in the book. On the occasion, Maharaj Jai Singh, who also shares his birthday with Sinha, recounted his memories of celebrating birthdays together with him. He further said that Sinha was committed to the city of Jaipur and played an active role in preserving the heritage of the city. A thorough gentleman on all occasions, his contribution to the sport of polo is also remarkable.

Sudhir Mathur said that it is an emotional moment for him as this dream project has come true.  Raghu mama, as he fondly called him, was his role model and he silently observed his conduct while growing up and imbibed many of his characteristics. Surendra Golcha recounted Raghu Sinha’s contribution to the sport of tennis in the city and how even now courts built under his patronage are being used by the city’s youth. Meera Khanna said that Sudhir Mathur is a true reflection of Raghu Sinha in terms of his philanthropy and support to the city’s various organizations. Malashri Lal, who moderated the discussion, said that Raghu Sinha was not just a person but an institution in his own right. Family members, contributors to the book, friends, and other members of the Trust were present at the book launch.
