Awareness Session on Brain Death Declaration and Donor Optimization

As part of National Organ Donation Month, Santokba Durlabhji Memorial Hospital (SDMH) organized a focused awareness session on ‘Brain Death Declaration and Optimization’ in collaboration with the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO), Rajasthan.

The session, held at the SDMH Auditorium, aimed to strengthen the understanding of brain death certification, donor identification, and the ethical and procedural protocols involved in organ donation. The event was addressed by Dr. Chitra Singh, Professor in the Department of Anaesthesia at SMS Medical College, Jaipur, who also serves as the Programme Optimization Head for Organ Transplant and a Member of the Brain Dead Committee, and Mr. Leelam, Transplant Coordinator at SMS Hospital.

Dr. Nitin Kansal, Medical Director and Cardiologist, emphasized the importance of ethical organ transplantation and striving for clinical excellence and highlighted the vital role of organ donation in saving lives. Consultants, resident doctors, and nursing in-charges from SDMH participated in the session, which was well received for its practical insights and relevance to day-to-day clinical decision-making. This initiative reflects SDMH’s commitment to promoting awareness and excellence in organ donation practices and to supporting the creation of a more robust transplant ecosystem in Rajasthan.
