To commemorate World Environment Day 2025, CUTS International organised an exclusive Plogging Drive at Jaipur’s Central Park early this morning, starting from Gate No. 2 at 07:30 AM. The event drew enthusiastic participation not only from the entire CUTS family but also from several members of the public and other organisations.
The event was led by Mr Pradeep S Mehta, Secretary General, CUTS International. The plogging trail started from Gate No. 2 and covered the entire Central Park. The participants collected plastic waste and other litter while jogging or walking, thereby promoting physical health alongside environmental consciousness.
Plogging—a blend of “jogging” and the Swedish word “plocka upp,” meaning “to pick up”—is an innovative fitness and environmental movement that combines exercise with waste collection. This initiative has been personally championed by Mr Mehta, who has been plogging every weekend at Central Park for the past year, accompanied by colleagues and fellow citizens, demonstrating his commitment to a cleaner, greener Jaipur.
Today’s initiative sparked curiosity and admiration among regular morning walkers, many of whom stopped to engage with the participants and learn more about this eco-friendly activity. One of the highlights was the use of special plogging sticks, which allowed participants to pick up waste without bending or pausing, making the process smooth and hygienic.
While the focus remained on Central Park, the larger message was clear: the mission of a “Plastic-Free World” must begin at the community level but must resonate far beyond. CUTS International’s event was a call to action, showing how collective efforts—even at a local scale—can lead to global impact.
CUTS International expresses heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined the plogging movement this morning and invites more individuals and social organisations to carry forward the spirit of environmental responsibility beyond this single day.
