Conceived and launched under the leadership of Princess Gauravi Kumari, the project provides 15 girls with year-long training, guidance, and mentorship in sports of Gymnastics, Fencing and Judo.
On the occassion, PDKF’s General Secretary, Princess Gauravi Kumari, said: “The aim of Project Vijayata is to empower young women in Rajasthan to discover their strength and potential through sports. Some girls have the talent to excel, but not all of them get the chance to pursue it. This initiative will support them for a year with training, guidance and mentorship.”
At the project launch, coinciding with National Sports Day, an inspiring panel discussion was also held on the theme “Empowering Girls Through Sports”. Two eminent sports personalities who participated were: Asian Games medalist and national champion (Hammer Throw), Manju Bala and international para-athlete and co-founder of Wheeling Happiness Foundation, Devika Malik. They shared their journey, experiences and challenges to motivate the children. The session was moderated by founder of Aryan’s Sports School, Anurag Arya.
During the discussion, Manju Bala emphasized that one should never give up their passion for sports under any circumstances. Sharing injury-prevention tips with the children, she advised them to always follow their coach’s guidance, stay mentally strong, understand their body’s signals, and never delay seeking medical advice. Devika Malik highlighted the need for accessibility and integration in schools and other public spaces for differently-abled athletes. She said that sports are the most powerful medium to empower girls, as they not only help shape personality but also strengthen self-confidence.
Sports kits were then distributed to the girls, followed by an impressive demonstration of Gymnastics, Fencing and Judo by the participants. Also present on the occasion were Maharaj Narendra Singh, Rama Datt, Executive Trustee of City Palace Museum, Jaipur, and cricketer Rohit Jhalani.
